Dongiga's normal and Custom Colors.

Custom Colors are alternate cosmetic colorations for Spectrobes, found in Spectrobes, Spectrobes: Beyond the Portals, and Spectrobes: Origins. They convey no combat benefits, but allow for a degree of personalization by the player. Each Spectrobe typically features two Custom Colors in addition to its standard colors, though a few exceptional cases have more.

Spectrobes and Spectrobes: Beyond the Portals

In Spectrobes, upon obtaining the Rho Cube, Aldous will add color awakening to the awakening system. Depending on the vocal pitch used when awakening a fossil, the Spectrobe will have one of three colors, either its standard color or one of two Custom Colors; the pitch can be identified by the height of the bar lit up during the awakening process. This can be done by default in Spectrobes: Beyond the Portals.

Chroma minerals can be used to change a Spectrobe's colors after the initial awakening. A Chroma 1 mineral gives a Spectrobe its standard colors, Chroma 2 gives it its Custom Color 1, and Chroma 3 gives it its Custom Color 2.

All Spectrobes have 3 Custom Colors and obtaining a Spectrobe with each of the three colors is a requirement for completing its respective Database entry.

Spectrobes: Origins

Fossils in Spectrobes: Origins can only be awakened with their standard coloration, and because there are no Chroma minerals in the game, there are no traditional custom colors. Instead, all custom colored Spectrobes are obtained through non-standard gameplay means.

Base-game Spectrobes with variants given through Card Input are differently-colored, much like a single Custom Color from the first two games. Spectrobes with a Metallic Custom Color are awarded by completing the Database, completing the story, pressing UP, DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT, and A on the title screen before starting a new game, and by linking your game with a copy of Spectrobes: Beyond the Portals. Finally, there are multiple “clothed” variants of Komainu obtained through Card Input, though these Custom Colors don’t persist through evolution.

Obtaining all, or even any, Custom Colored Spectrobes are not required to complete the Database.
