The High Krawl are four high ranking, special Krawl. They have humanoid appearances and human-level intelligence, making them more like commanders as opposed to the mindless Krawl hordes. They made their debut in Spectrobes: Beyond the Portals, where they were assigned the task of destroying the towers within the Nanairo System by Krux. It is unknown if the High Krawl were once human or not.
High Krawl[]
The four High Krawl are:
- Jado, a somewhat cowardly and underhanded Krawl who can command his Shadow from a distance
- Gelberus, a large, powerful Krawl whose body is engulfed in flames
- Gronos, a gluttonous, ravenous Krawl who can consume and regurgitate matter from a portal in his torso
- Maja, a boastful and cunning Krawl who can command Dark Spectrobes and use her blade-tipped ponytail in combat
With the exclusion of Maja, the High Krawl have Properties that are weak against the Spectrobes you receive on the planet you fight them (i.e. Jado on Genshi, where you find Aurora Fossils). Jado is of the Flash Property, Gelberus is Corona, and Gronos is Aurora. Maja is the Dark Property, which has no strengths or weaknesses. Oddly, Jado remains the Flash Property despite having absorbed the powers of the other High Krawl before the second battle with him on Malik.
All High Krawl have a combat form they morph into during battle with Rallen, each appearing with monstrous, distorted features found on their humanoid form
- Jado becomes a spiky blob which fights alongside his infinitely-reviving Shadow, In Spectrobes: Origins, he turns into a winged, emaciated humanoid with a massive third arm.
- Gelberus becomes a muscular, flaming torso with massive orbs for hands
- Gronos becomes a floating hollow sphere containing a black hole-like portal
- Maja becomes a spindly figure with a massive, scythe-like appendage
Spectrobes: Beyond the Portals[]
The High Krawl worked to facilitate a Krawl invasion of Nanairo. Each sought to destroy the ancient towers on Genshi, Daichi, Nessa, and Ziba in order to open an interstellar Portal nearby, through which hordes of Krawl would arrive and consume the planet. Jado attacks Genshi, Gelberus attacks Nessa, Gronos attacks Ziba, and Maja attacks Daichi. All succeed in their task, though Jado fails to open a portal afterwards. Rallen systematically explores the systems beyond the portals and kills each of the High Krawl, excluding Jado. The Jado defeated on Genshi was a shadow duplicate, leaving his true Shadow free to consume the corpses of the other slain High Krawl in order to gain their powers. He escapes death again on Malik where Krux banishes him to become a part of the Krawlosphere after his defeat.
The High Krawl are fought as follows:
- Jado - Genshi, Malik (With other High Krawl absorbed)
- Gelberus - Hyoga
- Gronos - Akaboshi/Aobashi (varies which one you go to at the time when Ziba's moons are out of control)
- Maja - Nox (City area)
Spectrobes: Origins[]
Jado returns in Spectrobes: Origins despite his supposed integration into the Krawlosphere. He disguises himself as Krux, observing Rallen and Jeena's progress in collecting the five Shards of the King during their time in the Kaio System. He appears to them once they have all five pieces, attempting to convince the duo and Kamtoga into giving them up, even going so far as to remove his mask. However, his face was that of Krux's 30 years ago, a clear giveaway he was an imposter. The real Krux appeared shortly thereafter, admonished Jado, then faced his old friend Kamtoga while Rallen and Jenna escaped with the Shards. Desperate for Krux's approval, Jado followed them to the Mount Awakening on Wyterra in a final bid to stop the Ultimate Form Spectrobe's reconstitution. He transformed into a new combat form and proceeded to fight Rallen and Jeena. After his defeat, Jado retreats to the encroaching Krawlosphere before being obliterated alongside the oncoming Krawl by the newly-awakened Kaio.
In this game, Jado is of the Water Property, Origins' equivalent to the Flash Property. In his new combat form, he retains several characteristics of the other High Krawl, such as the ability to shoot a beam of green light with the Grass Property (an attack used by Gronos, with the Grass Property being derived from the Aurora Property).
